MGWCC #315 — Friday, June 13th, 2014 — “Group Think”

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:mgwcc314

Nice and easy Week 1, solved by 636 and missed by just 1 (you know who you are!). The three theme entries all started with a word in the pattern ?EATHER:

17-A [Make some serious (but shady) cash] = FEATHER YOUR NEST

34-A [Swanky car feature] = LEATHER INTERIOR

54-A [Local news segment] = WEATHER FORECAST

Instructions asked for a member of the cast of Melrose Place, which you either knew (don’t be shy to admit it) or Googled to find meta answer HEATHER LOCKLEAR.

Peter Gordon
says:

Downs only.

Meaning that to toughen up Week 1 puzzles he only uses the down clues. Veep did it that way, too:

This was a tough one for downs-only, but getting the top long entry got me the meta theme and the other two long entries…. only wound up missing a few squares in the bottom right (didn’t know the deer or stere).

Something to consider for July’s Week 1.

This week’s winner, whose name was chosen randomly from the 636 correct entries received, is Andrew Sullivan of Mount Vernon, N.Y. In addition to a MGWCC pen, pencil and notepad set, Andrew will also receive a one-year subscription to Peter Gordon’s current Kickstarter campaign, Fireball Fortnightly News Crosswords.

Peter’s Fireball Fortnightly Kickstarter is almost completed, and could use a little love to get it over the top. So check it out here and consider kicking in a few ducats.

INTERVIEW AT PUZZLE NATION:

I did a short interview with PuzzleNation last week. Check it out here.
