LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:

[Note: post is up a little early this week since I have to be somewhere right at noon and don’t fully trust WordPress’s autopost. The submissions form won’t open until noon, and I won’t be able to verify entries until around 2:00, so don’t fret if you don’t see any entries up there.]

Which ACPT champion did last week’s puzzle point to? Theme entries were:

20-A [Johnny Bench and Yogi Berra, always looking on the bright side?] = SUNNY CATCHERS
24-A [Wants in on a hand, at the 11-year-old girls’ poker game?] = ANTES SCRUNCHY
41-A [Choreograph a dance of half-men, half-horses?] = SYNCH CENTAURS
46-A [Makes a shocking announcement at a diplomat’s building?] = STUNS CHANCERY

Anagram any of those four phrases and you get NANCY SCHUSTER, crossword great and winner of the first ACPT in 1978 (and perennial judge at the tournament, up to and including 2014’s edition). Note that the four theme entries also keep her (5,8) letter enumeration.

While we’re at it, congrats to Dan Feyer on his fifth straight ACPT title. Bravo! This guy is a force of nature.

This week’s winner, whose name was chosen randomly from the 534 correct entries received, is Dave Bromsey of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. In addition to a MGWCC pen, pencil and notepad set, Dave will also receive a copy of Trip Payne’s forthcoming 2014 Puzzle Extravaganza.

MONTHLY WINNERS:

104 solvers submitted the correct contest answer to all four of February’s challenges (PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN, STRAY DOGS, RED, DELETE KEY). The following fifteen lucky and skillful winners, chosen randomly from that group, will receive a MGWCC pen, pencil and notepad set:

Peter Abide — Biloxi, Miss.

“ant” — Gilbert, Ariz.

Gisela Bofill — Rochelle Park, N.J.

Peter Gwinn — Chicago, Ill.

Brent Holman — San Francisco, Calif.

Bob Klahn — Wilmington, Del.

Andy Kravis — Brooklyn, N.Y.

Brian Kulman — Los Gatos, Calif.

Nate L. — Alexandria, Va.

Alexander Miller — Grand Rapids, Mich.

Eric Prestemon — Woodside, Calif.

Scott Rogoff — Mountain View, Calif.

Jason Shapiro — New York City, N.Y.

Jim Silvestro — Wood-Ridge, N.J.

David Stein — Silver Spring, Md.

Congratulations to our fifteen winners, and to everyone who went 4-for-4 in February (Oh, shoot — we were supposed to have 17 winners this month, not 15! Oh well — we’ll make it 12 winners for March instead).

THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:

This week’s contest answer is a Shakespeare play. Submit your answer in the form on the left sidebar by Tuesday at noon ET. Note: the submissions form disappears from the site promptly at noon on Tuesday.
