LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:
The four theme entries last week spelled out a current events word puzzle: the meta answer was A NINE-LETTER WORD / THAT FULLY EMBEDS / THIS YEAR’S WINTER / OLYMPIC HOST CITY.
That would be the Russian city of Sochi, and the nine-letter word embedding it is MASOCHIST (or MASOCHISM), found by 628 solvers. An additional 14 sent in (puckishly, in most cases) ISOCHIMES or ISOCHIMAL (definition here), which was also accepted as correct.
Canadian Guy says:
I was SO CHIPPER when I solved the meta this morning.
Charlie Haley writes:
Masochism: sounds like me every 4th and 5th Friday of the month.
And Mark Diehl notes that we’re talking about Sochi…
…not the alternate location of Valparaiso, Chile.
This week’s winner, whose name was chosen randomly from the 642 correct entries received, is Rogelio Williams of Potomac, Md. In addition to a MGWCC pen, pencil and notepad set, Rogelio will also receive a subscription to Peter Gordon’s forthcoming Fireball Newsweekly Crosswords.
THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:
This week’s contest answer is a sport (not a specific event in that sport, just the sport itself) you’ll see at Sochi. Submit your answer in the form on the left sidebar by Tuesday at noon ET. Note: the submissions form disappears from the site promptly at noon on Tuesday.

Solve well, and be not led astray by words intended to deceive.
