Dear MGWCC Subscriber,
MGWCC #387, which would normally have been published today at noon ET, will instead go out tomorrow, Saturday October 31st, at noon ET.
The reason for the delay is a sad one: you may have already heard by now that crossword great Henry Hook passed away on Tuesday at the age of 60. His death was not entirely unexpected — he had had major health problems for much of the year, including having part of one leg amputated — but that does not ease the blow for those who knew and admired him.
MGWCC #387 is a tribute to Henry, and, while the puzzle is now complete, there hasn’t been enough time for testers to take a look at it. So I’m going to have them do that today; as it’s both a Week 5 and a tribute to one of my crossword heroes, I’d especially rather it be done right than in any way rushed.
But let no one say that I left you without a meta today: please fill the void by taking a crack at my spookily-themed Wall Street Journal contest puzzle, “Scary Movie”:

Thanks in advance for your understanding on this, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow at noon for the Halloween Henry Hook meta.
Be very afraid,
Matt
