LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:
I guess Weeks 1 and 2 got switched! 547 solvers found our famous song last week; the central spanner told them to look UNDER THE WEATHER, and beneath six types of weather in the grid (SNOW, ICE, MIST, HAZE, FOG, and WIND) they spotted the six title words of the CCR classic HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN.
Tyler Hinman asks:
Did you give any thought to hiding FOG in FOGERTY instead?
Yes, I burned about two hours trying to make this work in the lower-left corner and could. not. let. it. go, even when it became clear that the crossword gods had disallowed it. Not that I’m bitter. Stupid crossword gods! (shaking fist)
This week’s winner, whose name was chosen at random from among the 547 correct entries received, is Chris Stephens of Alexandria, Va. In addition to a MGWCC pen, pencil, and notepad set, Chris will also receive a one-year subscription to Matt Gaffney’s Daily Crossword.
THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:
This week’s contest answer is a famous song lyric. NOTE: Due to my late post, the deadline for this week’s puzzle is WEDNESDAY, JULY 26th, at 3:00 PM ET.
Solve well, and be not led astray by words intended to deceive.
