LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:

Title: “A League of Their Own”
Prompt: This week’s contest answer is a sport.
Answer: BOWLING
Correct entries: 591 overall, of which 576 were solo solves

Looking for a sport last week, and ten PIN rebus squares populated our grid. Arranged as the pattern found in BOWLING, making that our contest answer.

Hope you’re having that kind of day!

Abide says:

Striking

Bird Lives writes:

I’ll spare you my comment. No, strike that. It’s too obvious.

Nice non-trivial week one! As hard as this grid was to solve, I’m sure it was at least 10x harder to construct!

About 3.5x

Kromiumman notes:

Just a note: “mes” means “my” in French, not “our” (29-D).

Oui, excusez-moi!

And C.Y. Hollander:

Very nice construction. I noticed a mistake in one of the clues, however: Kol Nidre is not a Jewish holiday. It’s the prayer that begins the Yom Kippur service.

Excusez-moi, part deux

And finally, Evan writes with a trip down memory lane (heh-heh):

Back in 2002, two days before I graduated high school, our class had a bowling party where we each got to bowl three games. I don’t remember how I did on the first two. The third game, I somehow bowled a 203. Started with four strikes and had nothing but spares or strikes in all frames except one (which I believe was a 9). I don’t think I’ve ever gotten within even 30 pins of that high score since, but (of course) I managed to lose the scoresheet that the alley printed for me. One of the biggest flukes of my life and there’s no proof except my word and the memory of classmates I haven’t seen in 20 years.

THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:

This week’s contest answer is a four-letter U.S. city.

Solve well, and be not led astray by words intended to deceive.
