MGWCC #939 — Saturday, May 30th, 2026 — “Move It Along” by Mike Graczyk

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:

Title: “Compare and Contrast”
Prompt: This week’s 5-letter contest answer is an adjective I hope you wouldn’t apply to this meta.
Answer: SHADY, found by 160 solvers, 74 of which were solo solves

Five theme entries last week, all on the acrosses, like so:

17-A: [Cuts] = MAKES A SNIP
28-A: [Where you might share a recipe] = PERSONAL BLOG
37-A: [1992 Meryl Streep comedy] = DEATH BECOMES HER
47-A: [Light source] = ELECTRIC BULB
57-A: [Mid-court tennis shot, often] = HALF VOLLEY

Next insight: notice that the last word in each entry becomes a color if you reverse it and replace its first letter:

SNIP — PINS — PINK
BLOG — GOLB — GOLD
HER — REH — RED
BULB — BLUB — BLUE
VOLLEY — YELLOV — YELLOW

And finally, find a thing in the grid that’s each of those colors:

PINK — SOW (41-A)
GOLD — HONEY (1-A)
RED — APPLE (66-A)
BLUE — DENIM (32-A)
YELLOW — YOLK (52-A)

The first letters of those spell contest answer SHADY, found by 160 solvers, of which 74 were solo solves.

That one played very tough! Week 5 numbers for sure, so we’re going to dial it back just a tiny bit with a guest puzzle from MGWCC regular Mikey G. (aka Mike Graczyk).

THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:

Today’s puzzle is Week 5 of 5 in May. Instructions:

This week’s 6-letter contest answer is an adjective I hope you wouldn’t apply to this meta.

Good luck! Note that, due to the late post, the contest deadline for this one is Wednesday, June 3rd, at noon ET.
