LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:

Title: “Lost and Found”
Instructions: This week’s contest answer is a five-letter noun.
Answer: SPORK

Quick write-up this week because pressed for time: we had five theme portmanteaux (words created by mushing two other words together):

SPANish/enGLISH
FUDGe/popSICLE
Lion/tIGER
CAMera/reCORDER
GUITAr/ukuLELE

The letters lost in forming each portmanteau (in lowercase above) were then found elsewhere in the grid, anagrammed as fill:

ishen = SHINE
epop = POPE
iont = ONIT
erare = RAREE
ruku = KURU

The first letters of these found works, in grid order of portmanteau, spell SPORK.

This week’s winner, whose name was chosen at random from the 413 correct entries received, is Cade Hodgson of Houston, Tex. In addition to a MGWCC pen, pencil, and notepad set, Cade will also receive a 1-year subscription to Matt Gaffney’s Daily Crossword.

THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:

NOTE: Due to the delay in posting, the deadline for this week’s puzzle will be Tuesday, August 28th, at 3:00 PM ET.

This week’s contest answer is a familiar quartet.

Solve well, and be not led astray by words intended to deceive.
