MGWCC #003 — Friday, June 20th, 2008 — “They’ll Never Abolish the Fed”

Ahoy, Fellow Cruciverbalists! Welcome to the third installment of my weekly crossword contest. If you’re new to the contest and would like to enter, please read the site FAQ on the left sidebar for instructions.

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS: Last week’s contest was successfully puzzled out by 46 entrants, a number that dwarfs the previous week’s 34 entrants. Speaking of dwarfs: the three long theme entries in the grid were SKEEZY DOPER, SLEETY BATHFUL and FRUMPY HARPY, six words that can each change one letter to become the name of one of the Seven Dwarfs (Sneezy, Dopey, Sleepy, Bashful, Grumpy, and Happy). The missing member of the septet was Doc, who can be found — with one letter changed, of course — at 59-across. That entry — DOH — was the correct contest answer word, and hopefully what you muttered to yourself when you got it.

Solution grid is at left and also posted on the MGWCC Google Group:

http://groups.google.com/group/mgwcc

Reminder: join the Google Group to have the puzzle e-mailed to you right when it’s posted each Friday afternoon, or to solve the electronic Across Lite version of the puzzle.

Our lucky winner for MGWCC #002 is Richard Kalustian of Tacoma, Wash., whose name was randomly chosen from among the 46 correct entries. Richard has chosen to receive an autographed copy of Sip & Solve Hard Crosswords as his prize.

THIS WEEK’S CONTEST INSTRUCTIONS:

This week’s contest answer is a two-word phrase that’s a total of 15 letters long. E-mail it to me at crosswordcontest@gmail.com by noon Eastern time on Tuesday, June 24th to enter.
