LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:

A lot going on in last week’s puzzle. Solvers were tasked with finding a five-word sentence I hope you don’t say after solving this meta. Our theme was a three-parter clued as:

With 38-Across and 60-Across, Aimee Mann lyric you should listen to seven times…and parse in an unusual way

Here’s the lyric: IF SOMEHOW / YOU MOVED POINT / A TO POINT B

What’s the unusual parsing? The word TO is the important part, and we’re not using A and B as letters here, but rather like she used it in the song or you used it in geometry class, as “point 1 and point 2.” So that parsing yields the idea: find the seven ?TO? words in the grid, and move their first and last letters (points A and B) to the entry in the grid that starts and ends with those letters. Like so, in order of grid placement:

E(TO)N = E(THA)N
S(TO)A = S(T)A
S(TO)W = S(ONE)W
A(TO)P = A(WAS)P
S(TO)P = S(TOO)P
O(TO)E = O(HAR)E
A(TO)M = A(D)M

The letters in between where you moved points A and B to spell out contest answer THAT ONE WAS TOO HARD! Which I guess it wasn’t, since 219 correct entries is high for a Week 5.

Our fearless traveler ASB sends more pics from Italy. First, his view of the Mediterranean from Sorrento as he solved:

And second, he found the village near Naples to which I’ll be retiring when this series ends in 2027:

This week’s winner, whose name was chosen at random from the 219 correct entries received, is Jane D. of Brooklyn, N.Y. In addition to a MGWCC pen, pencil, and notepad set, Jane will also receive a copy of Nate Cardin’s compilation project QueerQrosswords.

YEARLY PRIZES FOR 2017:

All bronze, silver, and gold medal prizes for 2017 have been sent out. Always a bigger project logistically than I think it’s going to be, especially since I made the tactical mistake of having February be Share the Love Month with extra prizes (Valentine’s Day or not, I think I’m shifting Share the Love Month to April next year!). But all the SLM prizes are out as well.

The upshot being: if you’ve got a 2017 yearly prize or a February Share the Love prize coming and you haven’t received it by the middle of next week, please e-mail me (crosswordcontest@gmail.com) and we’ll see what’s going on.

MONTHLY PRIZES FOR MARCH:

After sending out 100+ prizes over the past three weeks, I naturally blanked on picking March’s winners. D’oh! But I’ll announce them next week and we’ll do the standard 12 instead of 10 we do when I forget.

THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:

This week’s contest answer is a TV show.

Solve well, and be not led astray by words intended to deceive.
