LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:

Title: “Get the Idea Across”
Instructions: This week’s contest answer is something beautiful that’s four letters long.
Answer: ROSE
Number of correct entries: 615

A one-hinter for our week one, and that big hint came at the central 38-A: [Important rows] yielding TWO SIX TEN TWELVE.

Gotta check out those rows in the grid, each of which contains three entries:

Row 2: WAZE ROUTE PART
Row 6: BIRDS WHO HOOT
Row 10: TOOL FOR SOUPS
Row 12: MOVIE STAR PAGE

Why, those read almost as if they were…crossword clues? And indeed they are, each satisfied by an entry in the grid:

[Waze route part] = ROAD at 68-A
[Birds who hoot] = OWLS at 21-A
[Tool for soups] = SPOON at 67-A
[Movie star Page] = ELLEN at 5-A

The first letters of those spell contest answer ROSE, found by 615 solvers. Certainly a thing of beauty, and also homophonically fitting since you found your rose on those [Important rows].

TheActuary says:

First time here!

Welcome, and you’re 1-for-1. As is Daniel Cimento:

My first solve (I hope)!

Yup! At the other end of the spectrum, mpstable celebrates:

my 300th correct answer since the switch to this site!

Nicely done!

Maggie W. had no trouble, because:

Hey, it’s my middle name!

lilroser says:

See, haters???? I always told you I was famous enough to be considered “beautiful” by an obscure weekly crossword puzzle contest!!!!

(review last week’s comments if that made no sense)

And finally, Adam Thompson specifies that his answer isn’t the flower:

from golden girls

My wife’s favorite show, and Rose is her favorite of the four.
