LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:

Title: “What’s Wrong?”
Prompt: This week’s contest answer is an automotive term.
Answer: FAILURE TO SIGNAL
Correct entries: 399, of which 335 were solo solves

Interesting idea, though I ran into some issues with execution and it might turn out to be the kind of concept that brainstorms cool but then is awkward to implement solidly and interestingly. Good discussion here and I’ll try to post some more thoughts in this space later on tonight.

WP’s CCCC:

Meta-maven Will Pfadenhauer (see here) writes with an exciting and worthy project:

Over the past several months, I have been working with many members of the XWord Muggles community on a little project we’re calling “Contest Crosswords Combating Cancer” or “CCCC,” for short.

Contest Crosswords Combating Cancer (CCCC) is a bundle of 16 contest-style (meta) crosswords that we’ve created to help raise money for cancer-related organizations. The puzzles are easy-to-medium in difficulty (for both the grids and the metas). It was our goal to create puzzles that we thought most folks would be able to solve, regardless of previous experience. We’re asking that folks forward their emailed receipts from their online donations to us (any amount is accepted, suggested donation is $13), and in exchange we’ll respond with the puzzles (provided in .puz and PDF formats). More details are available on our website CrosswordsForCancer.com, or by emailing us at CrosswordsForCancer@gmail.com.

I think I speak for all the constructors and test solvers when I say that we’re very excited to share these puzzles with you, and we hope you’ll join us in supporting these amazing organizations!

Thanks, Will! On to Week 1 of 4 in May.
