LAST WEEK’S PUZZLE:
Title: “MGWCC #906 — “Whaddya Say?”
Prompt: This puzzle’s contest answer is a two-word phrase.
Answer: THANK YOU, found by 287 solvers, 243 of which were solo solves

An amusing trifle which played tougher than I had expected. It was in the clues, eight of which’s two words bore the initials T.Y. Like so:
1-A: [Tunesmith Yorke] = THOM
12-A: [Treasured Yankee] = AARON JUDGE
31-A: [Typifying yesteryear] = OLDE
32-A: [“Time!” yellers] = UMPS
11-D: [That yacht] = HER
13-D: [Tennis’s Yannick] = NOAH
17-D: [Tragic yell] = KEEN
22-D: [Tirelessly yammer] = YAP
In grid order above, those spell out our contest answer, THANK YOU.
OGuyDave says:
Thank you…For concocting a Week 2 xwd that I could figure out
Magoo runs with the gimmick:
Took Years … to spot the clue oddities
Ryoustra give me some props:
And apropos of that, thank YOU! Seeing the puzzle numbers tiptoe into the 900s makes me appreciate your work all the more. Cheers!
It’s been wild for me as well to see these puzzle numbers in the 900s…I’m getting verklempt!
And finally, Evv says:
First time – this was fun!
How cool is that — we’ve got solvers who’ve worked on all 907 of these and others just getting started. It’s like a living, breathing creature in and of itself!
On to Week 3 of 5 in October…
